Carrying On Terry Fox’s Legacy

Scarlett Farr ('19)
Our annual Terry Fox Run was a resounding success, with another fundraising goal surpassed! Scarlett Farr (‘19) wrote about her experiences.
Last Friday Greenwood participated in the annual Terry Fox Run. The Terry Fox Run is really important to our school. It carries on the inspiring legacy of Terry Fox while also bringing the community together and raising money for an extremely important cause.

We had a great turnout, with everyone dressed head to toe in their House colours and sporting a crazy amount of Greenwood spirit and House pride. Much of the House pride can be attributed to the planning by the Grade 12 House Captains. Throughout the week of the Terry Fox Run the House Captains worked endlessly to pump up the school. On the Thursday and Friday before the run, the House Captains stood at the door collecting “Toonies for Terry.” They played music and stood at the doors welcoming people in and urging them to donate. This was a great success as we raised over $1,000 and had 100% participation from all Houses just from toonies!

With the final days of donations coming in, we passed our donation goal from last year of $13,500! The final amount we raised will be announced in the next assembly.

The run itself was spectacular. Some people ran the entire way, others walked—one even ran in a wedding dress! Everyone was congratulated at the end by their House Captains waving flags and handing out celebratory freezies. All in all, the Terry Fox Run was an amazing success, in terms of money raised, participation, and overall team spirit.
