Earth Week at Greenwood
The Environmental Committee planned a full roster of events for Earth Week, raising awareness about issues ranging from the impact of the meat industry to the waste created by fast fashion.
The Environmental Committee took charge of Earth Week, planning a full roster of different events designed to educate the Greenwood community about a range of environmental issues, from the impact of the meat industry to the waste created by fast fashion.
Each day of the week had a different theme, like meat or transportation. Slides on the digital screens around the school provide information about the day’s theme. After an Earth Week presentation by members of the Environmental Committee, the week started off strong with Meatless Monday.
The Environmental Committee and the Cafe served up alternative proteins. In the Cafe, students could choose between vegetarian and vegan options, such as a tofu stir fry and cheese perogies. The Environmental Committee gave out protein samples, including more exotic offerings like crickets!
The fun continued on Transportation Tuesday. Students were encouraged to think about the environmental impacts of how they get around through an informative lunchtime Kahoot game.
Throughout the rest of the week, students can look forward to more activities, food, and movie screenings. Friday is the grand finale, with Walk to School Day. Staff and students will be walking to school, with some teachers coming from as far as High Park and the Junction!
