Supporting the Humboldt Community

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
Following the tragic bus accident in Saskatchewan last week, our thoughts remain with the community of Humboldt, the victims, and their families.
The Greenwood community was saddened to hear about the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus accident in which 16 people lost their lives. Principal Hardy spoke about the tragedy in assembly, and like Canadians from coast to coast, we looked for ways to offer our support.

On April 13, we commemorated the victims by participating in “Sticks Out for Humboldt.” Staff and students brought in hockey sticks, and we displayed them along the wall by reception. In front, we lit sixteen candles in commemoration — one for each of the victims.

We also raised money in support of the Humboldt community’s GoFundMe campaign, set up to help the affected families. Students and staff wore green — the Bronco’s team colour — to show their support during a dressdown fundraiser. Through donations, we raised $1,235 for Humboldt.

We will continue to think about Humboldt, the lives lost, and the difficult journey ahead of the survivors as the community comes together to heal.
