There’s no better way to refine teaching skills than through hands-on experience within a professional learning community.
The year-long Apprentice Teacher fellowship supports qualified teachers who have recently graduated from a teacher education program. Our apprentice teachers believe that all students can learn and grow, and they demonstrate a student-centred, technology-enabled approach to learning that focuses on impact. Apprentice teachers are enthusiastic, energetic and collaborative and are eager to embrace Greenwood’s progressive approach.
Working alongside an experienced teacher, apprentice teachers further develop:
Classroom management skills
Strategies that support personalized learning
Action research skills
Teachers in this program also gain confidence in their ability to facilitate learning experiences and create positive and productive learning environments.
Outside of the classroom, apprentice teachers enrich student life by participating in Greenwood’s Outdoor Education program, coaching athletics teams and supervising service learning and other co-curricular activities.
“The feedback from learners in thecourse is powerful! Testimonials speak to the competencies that are refined and enhanced through a Theory of Action focus with a supportive mentor coach, in a professional learning community.”
