How We Learn: Investigating the Human Body and Brain
By Liz Branscombe
On Thursday January 29, Grade 11 students in the Advanced Learning Strategies class enjoyed a day of learning at the Ontario Science Center.
The trip connected to the course's exploration of how the human brain works and how we learn. They were encouraged to further develop their growth mindset by learning about topics that they chose to explore.
Students visited the AstraZeneca Human Edge exhibit, which explores “the wonders and possibilities of the human body” through the stories ofathletes, adventure seekers, extreme sports enthusiasts and others who have broken through barriers of what was once thought humanly possible. After exploring the exhibit and engaging in a variety of activitie, the students completed a small assignment that looked at the human brain and its functions.
The class ended their excursion by watching the OmniMax film The Human Body. The film presents a look at the unseen biological processes that go on without our control and often without our notice, by following a family as they go about their daily routines.
