House Week and Spirit Day 2017

Thanks to the driving force of the House Captains, the first-ever House Week was an enormous success!
The five-day celebration was filled with activities and games to get students excited for Friday’s Spirit Day. All the games throughout the week enabled participating students to gain points for their House. It was also a fun way to encourage solidarity, team-building and school spirit.

Greenwood kicked off House Week with an “Opening Ceremony” in the gym. House Captains and students cheered all participants while they competed in games including Random Object Football Toss and Hungry Hungry Hippos.

Other activities included pillar decorating in the Lodge, where each was dressed in a House colour. A three-point tournament took place on Tuesday at lunch in the gym, and some of our very talented artists performed at Greenwood Mic (formerly known as Coffee House) that afternoon. Students demonstrated their support for these budding musicians with loud cheers. On Thursday, they showed off their fashion design sense by decorating t-shirts in the Lodge.

On Friday, the long awaited event arrived, and students and staff travelled by bus to Serena Gundy Park. Houses showed off their team spirit in a cheer competition with Nahanni coming out as the winner. The eight multi-grade Spirit Houses later participated in competitive (but friendly) games of tug-of-war, tire derby and capture the flag.

Students also participated in activities including Huckle Buckle, Freeze Dancing and Ultimate Frisbee led and organized by the Grade 12s. All activities earned students points for their House. The House with the most points throughout the year will win the House Cup at Celebration Day.

A big thank you to everyone who showed off their school pride throughout House Week and on Spirit Day!
