Arts
Our arts program celebrates creativity and personal expression in each discipline of the arts. We run a full program in music, drama, visual and media arts that offers students curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities.
In recent years, Greenwood has introduced several new arts courses, including Instrumental Music, Grade 12 Media Arts, Grade 12 Painting and Drawing (focus on portfolio preparation) and Grade 11 and 12 Fashion Design & Film studies. In addition to traditional forms of the arts, our program also recognizes the increasing importance of technology to the evolution of the arts. To this end, we now have a state-of-the-art Media Arts Mac Lab.
The school runs both an Arts Day (where professional artists come to Greenwood to allow students a chance to sample their disciplines), and Arts Week. This year, Arts Week will bring students off campus into various locations around the city. This multiple evening event will feature performances by the concert band, junior band and school choir among smaller group musical performances. Drama classes will perform their plays, fashion design students will put on a show of their best creations, media arts and film students will screen their final films, and all visual arts students will have at least one piece of art work on display.
Past student-mounted productions include Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the junior years, and Departures and Arrivals and Seven Stories for senior students. The Senior production is performed in an off site theatre. Greenwood Arts will also have one Arts Showcase per term, this includes performances from all music and drama students and gives visual artists an opportunity to showcase their work.
Greenwood students participate in CIS and Toronto-wide music, drama, and film festivals each year and are offered a wide range of extra- and co-curricular opportunities including private instrumental lessons, choir, band, senior and junior plays, and animation, painting and improv clubs to name a few.
