Admissions Policy

At Greenwood, we remain firm in our commitment to the diversity of our student body and small class sizes that enable us to deliver effective differentiated instruction. As a result, only a limited number of places are available each year. Rather than seeking students who meet specific criteria, Greenwood emphasizes an eclectic mix of students that can develop into a mutually supportive community. Each candidate is considered for what he or she can contribute to the community as well as what he or she can gain from it. As a result, the admission decision is not based solely on the qualities of the individual candidate, but also on the composition of the overall community. The Admissions Process considers the following:
- Capacity to complete the requirements leading to the OSSD
- Learning style and needs, to ensure a positive learning experience
- Positive character attributes and values
- Reading and writing skills
- Interests, hobbies, activities and personal goals
- Parental support of, commitment to and involvement in the student’s education
Greenwood does not require the SSAT, but relies instead on a detailed application package and interview. We work very hard to understand the individual behind the application and the opportunities and challenges each student faces. The Admissions Committee meets a significant number of students during the academic year that would make wonderful potential additions to the Greenwood family. Last year the Committee received, reviewed and interviewed over 300 applicants for 75 spaces. We work hard to ensure that our classes reflect our commitment to academic and personal diversity.
