Our Inspiration

“Don’t just be good. Be great.” – John “Chief” Latimer, 1930 – 2003

On September 3, 2002, the doors of 443 Mount Pleasant Road opened to the 72 students of the first Grades 7 and 9 classes of Greenwood College School.

The experiences of those first students, and many more since that time, embody the vision of our founders: Richard Wernham, Julia West, John Latimer and David Latimer. Their dream was to offer a values-based education gained from a broad range of experiences, establishing solid foundations for individual achievement and good citizenship.

Greenwood integrates:

• A strong academic program with experiential learning and outdoor education
• A commitment to community service as a core value of the school
• A culture of challenge that promotes strong character development
• An environment that supports and appreciates learning differences
• Inspiring our community to strive for greatness is a commitment we dedicate ourselves to every day -
through differentiated and experiential learning, by fostering an environment where learning is fun
and stimulating and by helping our students unlock their potential for full and fulfilling lives.
